Aim:
To use Expressive Arts to promote the social, physical and mental wellbeing of marginalized groups.

How it will work:
Workshop shall promote the wellbeing and empower the Dalit community by hosting two workshops utilizing the expressive arts of mask making and dance. The initial workshops objective will be to train a group of trainers and shall consist of six participants from the Dalit community, lasting for six days.
Drawing a portrait by using feet
The second workshop will be held for seven days, for a larger group of 18 people, from the wider Dalit community. It will be provided to give the trainees a platform to practice their skills and pass on their knowledge that they have learnt within the Expressive Arts. As Expressive Art Facilitators we shall be present to support this practice.

The days will be split into two halves, with the morning being reserved for dance and movement exercises. During these sessions we shall creatively explore the self, the other and movement as a metaphor for expressing our life stories. The subject matter that is harvested during these sessions shall go towards the second half of the day that shall be dedicated to mask making as another way of externalizing certain themes and feelings within an individual´s life experience.

As a final outcome, the products created from these workshops will be showcased as part of the International Human Rights day on the 10th of December 2012.

Our life experiences can be accessed and activated through the body in movement. Movement is the primary language of the body and brings us to the deep feelings and memories.

Key words for doing:
Body awareness, personal body scan, balancing-centering, trust, group work, body portrait, dancing & exercises for different body parts. Getting to know different materials by drawing and mask making. Every morning there will be a check-in exercise which will help to reflect feelings from previous day workshop and at the end of the each day participants write journal for the day´s events.
